What is Pyrography?

A dictionary definition of pyrography:- Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object. It is also known as wood burning. (wiki online).

For me pyrography is something that takes not only talent and skill, but a great amount of patience. I did'nt become 'good' overnight, it took a lot of practice and research and trial and error. There are plenty of things that I have made and think wow, how did i manage to do that? Then I have to really think about how, for example, that shading was produced. Of course i have a lot of books on how to do certain techniques without which i would be completely lost - especially the first day I tried to put a mark on wood. I really am fascinated in creating what is really a burn mark on wood. I cannot express enough how enjoyable pyrography is. If any one is at a show and sees me there please come over and ask for a try of the machine - you will be surprised at how tricky it is to start with.

There have been times when i've been so absorbed designing that six hours can go by and it seems like two.
